Set on a limestone outcrop, Y Graig features woodland to the north and grassland on its southern slopes. The woodland is made up of oak, beech, and elm, creating a thick and shady canopy. In spring, the woodland floor is carpeted with bluebells. On the grasslands you’ll find magnificent views of the Vale of Clwyd as well as displays of rock-rose. The walk route is over steep and at times, uneven ground. Your effort will be rewarded with picnic tables in front of an incredible vista. This magnificent site is owned and managed by the North Wales Wildlife Trust. Bring a picnic and enjoy the experience led by a guide with great knowledge of the reserve.
Parking around Y Graig is limited so we appreciate Martin’s kind offer of opening his field for up to 20 cars. These are the directions you will need:
Passing Brynbella on the right continue on the B5429 turn up hill at the red post box and follow this road up. Turn left at the first fork and the next feature will be a long flat drive which you will ignore, 50m past this point take a right-hand turn. This close-knit community remained at Talacre until the 1970s. We will be looking for evidence of these buildings, then over the dunes and onto the beach, looking for the remains of WW2 defences, the lighthouse and other “treasures”. We will be sharing stories on the way, so there will be short stops to look around and chat. Bring snacks and drinks as there are no facilities or toilets on the walk, but there are plenty in Talacre after the walk.
